Our standard damper includes a built in spark arrestor screen that works very well in most conditions. However, in deep cold and especially with a slow fire burning sappy wood, creosote can build up inside the pipe and then flake off and fall down, clogging the arrestor. Cleaning it is simple but involves taking the pipe off the damper - which obviously can't be done while the stove is hot.
This is where the Ultra Arrestor comes in. Stack the Ultra Arrestor either above or below the damper, inline with the pipe. If creosote falls down and causes a clog, simply open the butterfly valve and dump the creosote down into the firebox. No pipe disassembly required for cleaning, and this can be done while running the stove.
