Many features- some didn't work for me

Posted by Eric Sumner on 22nd Apr 2019

This is a bit of a nitpicking review that focuses on some of the things that did not work so well for me. I've put well over 100 miles on this pack in 25 or more days in the field from early season backpack hunting to late season tree stand hunting in cold weather.

PROS: Best pack I've used for hauling heavy loads by far.

    Very customizable fit

Gatekeeper straps take some getting used to, but they give you infinite options for securing your load.

Quality construction- every stitch and buckle is very high quality and I have no doubt this pack will last many many years.

Colorado built by a great company who I will continue to support.

CONS: The long vertical pockets didn't work well for organization for me. Small items like calls, keys, etc. all slide to the bottom so you have to open the zipper all the way up and dig to find them.

The large open exterior pocket becomes a funnel for rain and snow. Kind of negates the idea of a waterproof pack

Moisture will slowly seep into the large main compartment zipper. Again, negates the idea of a waterproof pack. This was a big deal for me after a full day of 30-34 degree rain and snow with 3 more days of hunting to go. Hard to get things dry in those conditions once they accumulate moisture.

Noisy- every branch it touches will make unnatural sound. The large side pockets balloon out a bit giving it a bulky feeling and wide profile.

I'd love to see a simple, slimmed down, ultralight pack for 2-4 day bivy hunts or day hunts in colder weather. 3000 cu. in., roll top, slim profile, ultralight. A Gila pack or for use with the Revolution frame would also be a great option.

    PEREGRINE 3500

Posted by CLINT (LONEROCKOUTFITTERS.COM) on 9th Jan 2019

I waited to review this pack after a fall season of guiding in AZ. I really love this pack. I've packed out Elk ,Deer, and Javelina so far and it's held up great. I've been fighting some back issues the last 3 years and was looking for a lighter and more comfortable pack. This pack is both lightweight and durable. I also like that it's waterproof. But the best part is it is very comfortable. It is very adjustable to any size torso. This pack feels like I'm carrying half the weight that's actually in it. The storage capacity of the main bag is large but can be rolled down and compressed for a lower profile when not full of gear. The side pockets are large and perfect for my tripod and it swallows up my 64 oz water bottle with room to spare. I especially like the side zipper to access the main bag quickly without having to open the top. I also ordered the top pack which is very useful for gear/snacks you need to get to quickly. There is enough space for me to do a 3-4 day back-country Coues deer hunt. It comes with plenty of straps for tying down gear and I like the detachable buckles once I got used to them. This is really a great pack and I recommend it to anyone looking for a quality pack.

    Peregrine 3500

Posted by Josh K on 18th Dec 2018

I used the Peregrine for all of 2018, hunting deer and elk in Idaho and Arizona. It performed extremely well and I had no problems. I packed out 4 bull elk and 2 mule deer bucks during the course of the year and I found the breakaway feature super easy to use (the first time there was
a small learning curve). I can do up to 3 nights of backpack style hunting using the Peregrine and I tend to bring more warm clothes and food than the average person. I have put my rifle in the side pocket and also just used the straps to secure the rifle, both work fine. I can lash my bow on the outside using just one strap and a 5 inch piece of Velcro through one of the loops on the front center pocket. I have previously used the Unaweep 4800, the Divide 4500 and the Brooks 7400. They are all good packs but the Peregrine is the most functional hunting pack by far in my opinion. The front and side pockets are super handy for things like my spotter, snacks, water bladder, trekking poles, etc.

    Peregrine 3500

Recently took this on a 3day trip into the Sierra Nevada's. It carried weight well and held all my gear without question. I liked the side and back pockets to keep the gear organized. The comfort of the pack was great and highly recommend it. I'm 6'2 and add no issues.

    Peregrine 3500

I just put on over 35 miles with this pack. It is fantastic! Its incredibly comfortable and actually fits me. I've struggled with finding a pack that fit me correctly. I've finally found it. Works great as a day pack AND a 4-5 day bag. I didnt get a chance to load it with meat but there is no doubt in my mind that it will be comfortable while loaded heavily. I purchased the bottle holster and a hip pouch. The hip pouch held my range finder and my GPS.

    My new FAVORITE pack system.

Posted by Jim on 6th Feb 2017

Just received this last week. I ordered the Peregrine with a lid and two belt Pouches. I could not be happier with my purchase. Frame and suspension are the most comfortable I have ever used (and the list is long). I really like this little Peregrine bag as well. Will be a great day/overnight bag. I have a few dry bags I can use with it to carry more. However, I will definitely be purchasing the Fortress 4800 to go with the Revolution as well.

    Well Done

Posted by Unknown on 17th May 2016

I am loving the peregrine bag. The need for small compact backpacks is hugely under produced. Most bags in this capacity are either for climbing or hiking, and neither seemed to suit my needs. It has never made sense to me that I should need rain covers for backpacks. Why wouldn't you want a waterproof backpack? Peregrine may not be fully waterproof without seam sealing, but the roll top cover and the side zipper cover are good enough for me. I like the removable talon option, and the buckles for attachment can allow attaching many other things like other small bags or pockets, extra staps to hold odd items, or whatever you want to do with them. The side pockets are deep! This is something I rarely see on any backpack. The small zipper compartment on the front panel is ideal for storing essentials like wallets, phones, keys, etc. The full length zipper access make it very easy to pack and access gear. Very nicely done. And I am hard customer to please.

    Peregrine 2400

I have the peregrine in green. I am very happy with this bag.Well made and good size for every day use. Have been using for scouting trips, day hikes, and to carry weights to stay fit. Great size and fills the gap when you may not need a full size pack. I love the taller pockets on the side. Will also be using this setup soon for trout fish in the back county.
